The next interesting site chosen as a heritage example by the Lithuanian partner, and a good practice showing how young people’s literacy and digital skills can be developed through contact with heritage, is Trakai Island Castle.
It is an island castle located in Trakai, Lithuania, on an island in Lake Galvė. Construction of the stone castle was started in the 14th century by Kęstutis, and around 1409 the main work was completed by his son Vytautas the Great, who died in the castle in 1430. Trakai Castle is of great importance to the younger generation as a cultural monument, an educational resource, a place of recreation, a source of inspiration and a catalyst for heritage conservation. It enriches their lives by connecting them to their heritage, stimulating their curiosity and instilling a sense of pride and responsibility for their cultural and historical heritage.
