As part of the work on the first outcome of our project – the guidebook “Heritage as gateway for developing skills” – the project partners looked for inspiring tangible and intangible heritage sites in their area and in their country. These are places whose discovery can inspire the development of literacy and digital skills.
One of them is, chosen by the Polish team, the Silver Mine in Tarnowskie Góry. This is the unique mine in the world, where the first steam engine in Upper Silesia was launched. The tourist route in the mine includes: a film in a cinema hall, a modern multimedia museum, a walk through the underground labyrinth of corridors, a boat cruise. It is the only monument in the Silesian Voivodeship to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The history of silver mining in Tarnowskie Góry has great potential to be explored by young people as part of our project and can inspire their own activities.
